Bibliometric study of the scientific productivity of the COVID-19 impact on constructs affecting happiness in university students.

COVID-19 has caused a wide range of psychological problems, such as panic disorders, anxiety, and depression. Knowing what others have researched on, what constructs they have focused on, will (a) summarize published information, (b) help identify research gaps, and (c) encourage future research that addresses these gaps. The aim of the study was to analyze the bibliometric indicators of scientific productivity of the impact of COVID-19 on constructs affecting undergraduate happiness. A bibliometric study was conducted. The PubMed database was used. Data summarized were: authors, year of publication, journal name, country, language of publication, and subtopic addressed. A total of 16 English-language studies were identified between April 2022 and December 2022. There were 12 countries that have published on the impact of COVID-19 on constructs affecting college students' happiness. Most of the studies were developed in the United States (n = 4, 25%) and China (n = 2, 12.5%). Thirteen journals publishing these topics were detected. The subtopics considered were organized into nine categories (e.g., a: Psychological impact, b: Adverse childhood experiences, c: Stress, d: Personality traits, e: Perception of the educational environment, f: Spiritual health, g: Distress, h: Uncertainty and socioemotional learning, i: Satisfaction with life). This study suggests that the number of countries and scientific journals that have published on the impact of COVID-19 on constructs affecting college students' happiness is small. In addition, the most discussed subtopics during the pandemic were related to constructs such as psychological impact and stress affecting college students' happiness.

Avaliação da participação das mulheres brasileiras no CNPQ na área de pesquisa médica

Abstract Introduction: Brazilian scientific production has shown substantial growth and achieved international visibility. However, in general, the participation of women in scientific activities remains limited. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the indicators of scientific productivity of women fellows of the Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) in the field of Medicine. Method: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 541 (211 women, 39%) researchers registered as recipients of CNPq research productivity (PQ) scholarships in Medicine according to a list provided in December 2022. Results: There was a predominance of male researchers (n=330; 61%). In both the male and female groups, most researchers were at level 2, with 62.5% women and 47.2% men (p=0.018). All 211 female PQ scholars were distributed among 37 different institutions and published 34,969 papers in scientific journals, averaging 165.7 articles per researcher. In the last five years of the study period (from 2018 to 2022), 9,679 papers were published. Over their careers, the 211 researchers supervised 5,440 undergraduate research students, 4,144 master’s degree students, and 2,923 PhD candidates. There was a significant difference between the scholarship levels for the development of human resources in undergraduate research (p=0.040), master’s degree (p=0.027), and PhD. (p<0.001). Conclusion: There are still less women participating in CNPq medical research than men. However, we observed a substantial participation of women in all the assessed items, including technical and scientific production and the human resources training.

Digital Media Reshaping Art Education: A Literature Review in the Age of COVID-19

This study aims to conduct a bibliometric analysis in the field of digital media in arts education. The study's primary objectives were identifying the main topics, authors, sources, and most cited articles. In addition, the study aims to develop a knowledge base on the use of digital media in arts education. We analyzed articles indexed in major scientific databases such as Web of Science and Scopus to achieve these goals. The study results include quantitative analysis supported by tables, graphs, and maps, focusing on digital media in the arts and key performance indicators of scientific production and citations. The total number of articles reviewed was 239, of which 149 were analyzed in detail. The study was an inductive analysis resulting in significant categories of papers cited. These categories include art learning and the use of digital media in art education, the use of digital media in various areas of art education, learning processes using digital media, and current topics related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The study makes an important contribution to understanding the dynamics of the digital media field in education, particularly in the arts context. It can be a starting point for future research and development.

Role of biodentine in endodontics: a bibliometric and scientometric analysis

Objective. Vital Pulp therapy using Biodentine has advanced, introducing and allowing new procedures and treatments, hence medical education should focus on research and publication. The aim of the study was to perform a bibliometric and scientometric analysis of the literature on the role of biodentine in endodontics from 2013 to 2023.
 Methodology: A bibliometric and scientometric quantitative study formed the basis of the methodology. Scientific production indicators were generated from 87 documents selected from Scopus using English keywords ("Biodentine", "Endodontic").
 Results: Since 2016, the number of papers published on this topic increased (69%), indicating a growing interest towards this material. Brazil is the country with the highest scientific  interest (19%), and the Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho with the most publications (n=9). The International Endodontic Journal received 344 citations, Tanomaru-Filho M. (n=6) being the most cited.
 Conclusion: It is concluded that the role of biodentine in endodontics has grown not only in production and authorship, but also in scope and medical research, incorporating these resources in various scenarios and clinical settings.

Gross Motor Skills in Early Grade Students: A Bibliometric Study

Gross motor skills refer to fundamental motor skills such as running, walking, crawling, jumping and catching. This domain requires adequate coordination of muscular, skeletal and nervous system activity. The objective was to perform a bibliometric analysis of the literature indexed in Scopus on gross motor skills in students of the initial level, between 2003 and 2023. Methodologically, it was a quantitative bibliometric study. The scientific production indicators were generated from 498 documents selected from Scopus using keywords in English ("gossip", "motor", "skills", "childhood"). From 2016 to 2022, published papers increased (66.1%), indicating a growing interest in the subject of study. The United States is the country with the most scientific production (21.3%; n=157), and the University of Wollongong in Australia, has the most publications (n=21). The International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health published 24 papers, while the most cited was Developmental Medicine and Child Neurology with 707 citations, with author Goodway, J.D. (n=10 papers) being the most cited (n=682). From the studies analyzed, it is concluded that the early stages of a child's life are vital for the growth of gross motor skills, which in turn fosters the acquisition of knowledge, independence and confidence. Consequently, early learners can benefit from physical activity, as it helps them refine their motor skills by giving them the opportunity to work on balance, control and coordination.  

Social-Emotional Competencies in High School Students: A Bibliometric Analysis

The development of socioemotional skills can serve as protection against the negative effects of stress and difficult situations in the classroom or at work. The aim of the study was to conduct a bibliometric study of the literature indexed in Scopus on socioemotional competencies in high school students from 2003 to 2023 worldwide. Methodologically, it was a quantitative bibliometric study. The scientific production indicators were generated from 191 documents selected from Scopus, using keywords in English ("social-emotional", "high school" and "students"). From 2013 to 2021, published papers increased (67.5%), indicating a growing interest in the subject of study. The United States is the country with the highest scientific production (65.4%), and Arizona State University with the most publications (n=8). The journal Psychology in The Schools had the highest publication (n=5), however, School Psychology Quarterly received more citations (n=302), with the author Elias, M.J. (n=6 papers) being the most cited (n=242). It is concluded that the implementation of cross-cutting programs involving socioemotional competence is increasing due to the promotion of interdisciplinarity of individuals affiliated with the globalized society. Therefore, when students have strong socio-emotional competencies, learning improves, and disruptive behaviors are reduced.    

Latin American research on cardiovascular diseases: A bibliometric-network approach

The increase in the global prevalence of cardiovascular diseases has raised great concern among health professionals worldwide, making the advancement of knowledge in this field even more important. The aim of the study was to perform a bibliometric analysis of the scientific literature in Latin America on cardiovascular pathologies from 2003 to 2023. The methodology was based on a bibliometric and quantitative analysis of the literature. The scientific production indicators were generated from 6660 documents selected from Scopus using keywords in English ("diseases" and "pathologies"). The number of publications devoted to the subject increased by 89% between 2009 and 2022. Brazil is the country with the highest scientific production (63.9%), and the Universidade de São Paulo with the most publications (n=1277). The journal Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia had 684 publications, with Lotufo, P.A. (n=60) being the author with the most papers. It is concluded that cardiovascular diseases are important, as they are the main cause of disability and premature death, and both have an impact on increasing the cost of medical care. As a consequence, there has been an increase in the number of medical studies dedicated to this pathology in Latin America and the rest of the world.

Panorama of Undergraduate Research in Brazil: Profile, Scientific Production, and Perceptions

Undergraduate Research (UR) is an institutional program that introduces undergraduate students to scientific research. The program selects research projects proposed by advisors and students for execution. Despite the importance of knowing the stages of research activities in undergraduate research, only a few studies have evaluated data on this subject. Therefore, this study aims to outline an overview of UR in a Brazilian educational institution, considering the profiles of students and advisors, students’ scientific productions, and perceptions about the experience of both. The study was a mixed-approach case study conducted through a questionnaire and interviews. The sample consisted of 213 undergraduate students and 167 UR supervisors. The results show that the largest group of students were aged 21 and 22 (46.6%) and supervisors 33 to 38 years (38.9%). Regarding the scientific productions of students, those who participated twice or more in undergraduate research had higher indicators compared to those who were participating for the first time. Students’ perceptions of their evolution and perceptions of the advisors were mostly positive, with a greater number of responses classified as very good to good. Thus, the satisfaction of researchers in being part of this experience was perceived and the need to improve the scientific production indicators of students, mediated by the advisors stimulating the writing of articles, abstracts, and books, as well as participation in events and patent development, was shown. We conclude that undergraduate research activities promote the integral development of students’ academic, scientific, personal, and professional terms, which ultimately reflect critical and emancipatory actions in society.

Artificial intelligence applied in pulmonary hypertension: a bibliometric analysis.

Advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI) offer new Information Technology (IT) opportunities in various applications and fields (industry, health, etc.). The medical informatics scientific community expends tremendous effort on the management of diseases affecting vital organs making it a complex disease (lungs, heart, brain, kidneys, pancreas, and liver). Scientific research becomes more complex when several organs are simultaneously affected, as is the case with Pulmonary Hypertension (PH), which affects both the lungs and the heart. Therefore, early detection and diagnosis of PH are essential to monitor the disease's progression and prevent associated mortality. The issue addressed relates to knowledge of recent developments in AI approaches applied to PH. The aim is to provide a systematic review through a quantitative analysis of the scientific production concerning PH and the analysis of the networks of this production. This bibliometric approach is based on various statistical, data mining, and data visualization methods to assess research performance using scientific publications and various indicators (e.g., direct indicators of scientific production and scientific impact). The main sources used to obtain citation data are the Web of Science Core Collection and Google Scholar. The results indicate a diversity of journals (e.g., IEEE Access, Computers in Biology and Medicine, Biology Signal Processing and Control, Frontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, Sensors) at the top of publications. The most relevant affiliations are universities from United States of America (Boston Univ, Harvard Med Sch, Univ Oxford, Stanford Univ) and United Kingdom (Imperial Coll London). The most cited keywords are "Classification", "Diagnosis", "Disease", "Prediction", and "Risk". This bibliometric study is a crucial part of the review of the scientific literature on PH. It can be viewed as a guideline or tool that helps researchers and practitioners to understand the main scientific issues and challenges of AI modeling applied to PH. On the one hand, it makes it possible to increase the visibility of the progress made or the limits observed. Consequently, it promotes their wide dissemination. Furthermore, it offers valuable assistance in understanding the evolution of scientific AI activities applied to managing the diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis of PH. Finally, ethical considerations are described in each activity of data collection, treatment, and exploitation to preserve patients' legitimate rights.

Mapping the structure of knowledge about Community and Home Care

Introduction: Community and Home Care is defined as the first level of care; where the individual, by exposing their problems, finds their first contact with the health system. Provides general medical treatment, as well as prevention and health promotion actions.Objective: analyze the behavior of research on Community and Home Care published in Scopus.Method: a bibliometric study was carried out on the topic of Community and Home Care covered in the period 2018-2022. The SciVal tool was used to analyze the scientific production indicators. Descriptive statistics were applied. The Leg Ulcer theme stood out; Wound Healing; Exudate with a total of 665 investigations (5.46%). The articles with national collaboration stood out with 4,479 works (36.8%). The University of Sydney dominated with the highest number of articles with 219 (1.79%). United States was outstanding with 2,797 investigations (22.97%).Results: A total of 12,172 articles were retrieved. The year 2022 stood out with 2,299 articles (18.88%). The articles located in Q1 stood out with 3,139 articles (25.78%).Conclusions: scientific production on Community and Home Care showed gradual growth in terms of the number of published articles, characterized by an increasing number of citations. The largest number of investigations were located in high-impact journals, from countries with high production rates. A wide group of topics with the greatest national research impact were covered.

Bibliometrics of Scientific Productivity on Physical Activity in Children and Adolescents With Autism Spectrum Disorder and Down Syndrome

The aim of this study was to compare bibliometric indicators of scientific productivity in physical activity (PA) in children and adolescents with Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and Down syndrome (DS) in the PubMed database. A bibliometric study was conducted for the last 5 years (2017 to 2021). The data collected for each article were: year of publication, language of publication, country, journal name, and type of paper. The results showed that there was higher scientific productivity in the population with DS (20 studies) relative to their counterparts with ASD (31 studies). The language of publication in both cases was English. There were 10 countries that published on PA in ASD and 14 countries that published on DS. Overall, the greatest interest in publishing on PA in children and adolescents with ASD was in North America (6 studies), followed by Asia (5 studies) and Europe (4 studies). In the DS population it was in Europe (13 studies), North America (9 studies) and South America (4 studies). Nineteen journals were identified that published in the ASD population and 29 journals in DS. Six experimental studies were identified in ASD and 7 in DS. There was a higher scientific productivity with original studies. There was a positive trend of increasing scientific productivity over the years in both populations. We suggest the need to promote research on PA in both populations, regardless of the type of study, as it is an indicator of overall health status.

From Sustainable Development to Social Responsibility: A perspective of Scientific Production Indicators and General Interest in Spanish

Context: In the last decades, one has the impression that the term sustainable development has evolved towards social responsibility and that the activities carried out by organizations and institutions are very similar. Nevertheless, this paper presents a theoretical discussion of the contribution of social responsibility. The question of this research is: through indicators of general interest and scientific production, it is possible to determine the evolution of sustainable development towards social responsibility? Methodology: Using the non-participatory method of secondary data analysis, secondary data from articles in the Redalyc, WorldCat, Microsoft Academic, Scopus, and Web of Science databases and specialized books on the topics were analyzed. Google Ngram Viewer and Google Trends were used to compare the variations of the indicators of scientific production and interest. Results: Through secondary data analysis, it was possible to establish indicators of general interest and scientific production. A discussion is presented on the evolution of sustainable development towards social responsibility. Conclusions: The results showed that the evolution of sustainable development towards social responsibility was not surpassed over time, except at some moments and in specific geographical locations. A Bibliometric Study of Scientific Productivity on Adaptive Behavior in Children and Adolescents with Autism

The objectives of this study were to characterize the bibliometric indicators of scientific productivity on adaptive behavior (AB) in children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) during the year 2021. The PubMed database was used to summarize information from quantitative scientific articles (cross-sectional, longitudinal and experimental) and reviews (bibliographic, systematic review and meta-analysis). The data collected for each of the articles were: year of publication, journal name, country, language of publication and type of published document (cross-sectional study, longitudinal, experimental, biographical review, systematic review and meta-analysis). The United States (USA) published more articles than any other country in the world (n = 28), followed by Italy with 13 studies, China and Spain with six studies. A total of 44 scientific journals were identified that have published a total of 89 scientific articles related to AB in children and adolescents with ASD. Regarding the type of published paper, 63 quantitative studies were identified (cross-sectional studies, 9 longitudinal studies, 15 experimental studies). In addition, 14 literature reviews, 9 systematic reviews, and 3 systematic reviews/meta-analyses were identified. These results suggest practitioners and researchers to address and decide where to read and publish scientific articles related to AB in youth with ASD

Metadata and Semantics Metadata: Contemporary Discussions in the Digital Context

This article discusses the international scientific panorama on semantic metadata using bibliometric indicators and the positioning of Information Science concerning the theme. Bibliographic research and bibliometric studies provided the opportunity to identify indicators of scientific production on semantic metadata to show how this theme is addressed in the international scenario. Bibliometric indicators on semantic metadata are presented as results related to annual production, areas of knowledge, types of documents, main sources of publication and keyword clustering analysis. It can be concluded that the bibliographic production on semantic metadata is still not significant in the Information Science research agendas, which presupposes the development of research that considers theoretical and methodological constructs on semantic metadata in the current technological context.

Pearls of wisdom for aspiring physician-scientist residency applicants and program directors.

Postgraduate physician-scientist training programs (PSTPs) enhance the experiences of physician-scientist trainees following medical school graduation. PSTPs usually span residency and fellowship training, but this varies widely by institution. Applicant competitiveness for these programs would be enhanced, and unnecessary trainee anxiety relieved, by a clear understanding of what factors define a successful PSTP matriculant. Such information would also be invaluable to PSTP directors and would allow benchmarking of their admissions processes with peer programs. We conducted a survey of PSTP directors across the US to understand the importance they placed on components of PSTP applications. Of 41 survey respondents, most were from internal medicine and pediatrics residency programs. Of all components in the application, two elements were considered very important by a majority of PSTP directors: (a) having one or more first-author publications and (b) the thesis advisor’s letter. Less weight was consistently placed on factors often considered more relevant for non-physician-scientist postgraduate applicants — such as US Medical Licensing Examination scores, awards, and leadership activities. The data presented here highlight important metrics for PSTP applicants and directors and suggest that indicators of scientific productivity and commitment to research outweigh traditional quantitative measures of medical school performance.

Stigma towards Mental Disorders among Nursing Students and Professionals: A Bibliometric Analysis.

Stigma is one of the main barriers to prevention, treatment and recovery from mental illness. However, bibliometric studies in this area are still scarce. Therefore, our aim was to quantify and analyze the scientific literature on the stigma of nursing students and professionals towards mental disorders. To this purpose, bibliometric indicators of scientific production, impact and collaboration were used. Among our results, it stands out that only 14.3% of the total number of studies analyzed measure the efficacy of the interventions carried out to reduce stigma. Furthermore, with exceptions such as Happell B and Byrne L, collaborations between authors and institutions are limited. “Service user involvement” appeared as a prominent keyword in 2018, coinciding with the increase in publications on the effectiveness of interventions. Interventions based on the involvement of people with psychiatric diagnoses in the design of nursing curricula seem to become a promising line of research. More studies measuring the efficacy of such interventions are needed. Knowledge of the lines of research that are being developed and of the researchers and institutions involved can contribute to creating synergy between the different researchers and to continue adding projects to the existing ones, thus contributing to the generation of more robust results that show the most indicated interventions to reduce the still present stigma and improve care for people with psychiatric diagnoses.

Impact of a Clinical and Translational Science Awards hub on faculty research grant productivity

Abstract Introduction: Applications for and receipt of external research grants are important indicators of scientific productivity, and ones that the Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSA) Program is intended to support. Methods: We investigate the association between the receipt of support services from one CTSA-supported hub and investigator productivity as measured by individual investigator grant submissions and grant awards at a Research I public university over an 8-year period. Negative binomial regression models are used to evaluate associations between individual grant productivity (in 2017, 2018, and 2019) and receipt of support services during the preceding 2 years. Results: Controlling for prior levels of productivity, service receipt is found to be predictive of both grants submitted and grants awarded to investigators in each model examined. Analyses also found some evidence of faculty rank and race/ethnic differences in the effects of Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS) service use on subsequent grant productivity. Conclusions: Further work is needed to understand the relationship between clinical and translational services and other measures of productivity.

Bibliometric Study of Scientific Productivity on the Impacts on Mental Health in Times of Pandemic.

Background and Objectives: The presence of the new SARS-CoV-2 virus is causing enormous threats to people’s health and lives, so quantifying the scientific productivity on mental health in times of pandemic is an urgent need, especially to expand the degree of knowledge on mental health problems in regions of low scientific productivity. The aim was to characterize the bibliometric indicators of scientific productivity on mental health during the pandemic in the PubMed Identifier database of the National Library of Medicine in the United States. Materials and Methods: A documentary study (bibliometric) of the scientific productivity on mental health in times of pandemic from January 2020 to June 2021 was carried out. The PubMed database was used to abstract the information from the original scientific articles. The data abstracted were: authors, year of publication, journal name, country, and language of publication. Results: We identified 47 original articles worldwide, which were published in 29 journals and in three languages (English, Spanish, and German). We observed three groups of countries that published on mental health topics. The first group comprised the largest number of publications, which were multicenter studies (six studies), followed by India (five studies), and Italy (four studies). A second group comprised Bangladesh, China, USA, and Spain, with 3 studies each; and a third group comprised 13 countries (Albania, Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Brazil, South Korea, Denmark, Ecuador, Egypt, Greece, Japan, Jordan, Kuwait, and New Zealand) with one study each. Conclusions: Bibliometric indicators of scientific productivity on mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic have ostensibly increased. We verified 47 studies in PubMed, which could serve to improve the understanding and management of COVID-19, as well as serve as a thought-provoking means for other countries and researchers to publish on the state of mental health during and post pandemic.

STRATEGIC PLAN TO STRENGTHEN RESEARCH AS A MECHANISM TO INCREASE MEANINGFUL TRAINING BASED ON FORMATIVE RESEARCH

Background: The academic activity of students and professors constitutes the basis of professional training in engineering. Training in electrical engineering has always been of less interest to university students compared to other professional training programs. However, in recent years, this interest has decreased beyond previous trends, an effect detected in all engineering programs, which has been accelerated by the distance learning mechanisms adopted in the face of the spread of COVID-19. Therefore, among the incentive mechanisms for young people, the promotion of research activity has been included. This study describes the model proposed within the Electrical Technology and Engineering programs of the Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas as a distinctive element of its research training strategy. Aims: To offer alternatives tending to promote the current research activities of the research groups of the electrical engineering area of the Universidad Distrital (Colombia) to increase the performance of the formative research processes, in particular with motivational aspects, development of critical awareness, and strengthening of resilience. Methods: A strategic plan was developed to increase the activity related to research processes within the academic program. It was based on the dynamics shown in the last seven years, and a set of strategies aimed at strengthening and encouraging this trend was projected for the next seven years. Results and Discussion: This strategic plan is expected to increase academic activity, particularly related to scientific production indicators. Projections for the next seven years indicate an increase in student participation related to scientific publications, the population in research groups, and project development. Conclusions: The proposed scheme corresponds to a model adjusted to higher education institutions with student populations of low academic strata and under national standards that prioritize quality in education from the point of view of both physical and human resources, particularly those that promote critical awareness of local and national reality. In this sense, the proposed plan is highly relevant and promotes one of the strengths identified in the academic program.

Differences in Citation Patterns across Areas, Article Types and Age Groups of Researchers

The evaluation of research proposals and academic careers is subject to indicators of scientific productivity. Citations are critical signs of impact for researchers, and many indicators are based on these data. The literature shows that there are differences in citation patterns between areas. The scope and depth that these differences may have to motivate the extension of these studies considering types of articles and age groups of researchers. In this work, we conducted an exploratory study to elucidate what evidence there is about the existence of these differences in citation patterns. To perform this study, we collected historical data from Scopus. Analyzing these data, we evaluate if there are measurable differences in citation patterns. This study shows that there are evident differences in citation patterns between areas, types of publications, and age groups of researchers that may be relevant when carrying out researchers’ academic evaluation.
